Moon appears to be an extreme powerhouse in Taurus. Moon gets exalted up-to 3° in Taurus. After that from 3° to 30° Moon is in Mooltrikona which is the second most powerful position of Moon. Now everyone is eager to know why Moon is so powerful in Taurus, the sign of Venus, though relationship between Venus & Moon is not friendly. The sign Taurus is a feminine sign so feminine planet Moon gets some amount of strength here. Taurus is also a earthy sign which is useful to hold water. So significator of water element, Moon gains some strength in this earthy sign but these two reasons are not sufficient for exaltation of Moon. In fact the sign Taurus contains three Nakshatras- Krittika, Rohini & Mrigasira. The first Nakshatra Krittika ranges from 26°40' of Aries to 10° of Taurus. This is the first birth Nakshatra of Moon. That is the reason Moon gets highest exaltation power at the middle portion of its own birth star Krittika, i.e. 3° in Taurus. The second Nakshatra Rohini (10° - 23°20') is the another birth Nakshatra of Moon. Also Rohini is the most beloved wife of Moon. That is the reason Moon retains its Mooltrikona power in this Nakshatra. The third Nakshatra Mrigasira ranges from 23°20' of Taurus to 6°40' of Gemini. The ruling deity (not dasa lord Mars) of this Nakshatra is Moon itself. So Moon is also very powerful in this Nakshatra. Moon is powerful in this sign only because of these three Nakshatras, Venus has no role to play here.
Moon is debilitated in Scorpio up-to 3°. Scorpio is the sign of Mars. Though Moon and Mars are friends but they are completely opposite in nature. Moon is the karaka of emotions, adaptability, softness whereas Mars is the karaka of valour and aggression. Moon loves mind games, Mars likes physical activities. That's why aggressive planet Mars gets debilitated in soft, emotional sign Cancer and soft planet Moon gets debilitated in aggressive sign Scorpio. Moon is debilitated up-to 3° which is covered by the last quarter of Vishaka Nakshatra. This quarter falls in the own Navamsa of Moon. In spite of that Moon is debilitated in this position because of this Vishaka Nakshatra. This Nakshatra is ruled by combined deities Indra and Agni. As Vishaka carries the nature of both Indra & Agni, which made Vishaka as a very aggressive and quarrelsome type of Nakshatra. So pacifist Moon feels uncomfortable here. But Moon exits from debilitation when it enters Anuradha Nakshatra. Moon is very comfortable in Anuradha because of its auspicious deity Mitra who is one of the 12 Adityas, a benevolent deity related to friendship and harmony.
